Carla Ruaro pianist will attend the festival not only for presenting her movie but also for giving a live piano performance!

After the exhibition of the documentary "Raízes - A Piano in the Amazon" Carla will make a live music performance and will be able to talk to the public.

synopsis: The pianist Carla Ruaro and her team embarked on a 40 days expedition which involved hoisting a piano onto a boat and traversing the Brazilian Amazon. In collaboration with local composers, the aim of this independent project was to take contemporary Amazonian music to remote riverside communities and an instrument they've never seen before.

"Raízes - A Piano in the Amazon" will be also screened with the presence of Carla during friday morning specially for local schools.

Born in South Brazil, Carla is a pianist, researcher, educator, producer and director dedicated to cultural and social projects involving music, nature, travel, charity, cultures, music & film production.


Carla holds a Bachelor's degree from UFRGS in Brazil and Master's Degree in Music Performance from Goldsmiths University of London. Between 2015/2017 Carla was a member of the research team of CESEM, Center for Sociology and Musical Aesthetics Studies at Universidade Nova in Lisbon in the field of contemporary music.


Carla was part of Live Music Now scheme, a charitable and cultural institution in UK founded by Yehudi Menuhin, which provides live music in schools for children with special needs, hospices, centres for people with physical and mental disabilities. During 6 years she has been done performances and workshops all around England, Ireland and Arabic Emirates.


In 2012, she won the Funarte Prize with the project "Multiplying Brazilian Music in the Amazon" with her trio "Brazilian Ensemble" what drove her to carry out the project "Raízes - A Piano in the Amazon" which involved an expedition of 40 days transporting a piano by boat deep into the Amazon, taking contemporary Amazonian music to remote riverside communities. As a result, a double album with a CD and DVD Documentary was released in 2018.


She has been performing around England, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and Middle East in concert halls such as The Grosvenor Chapel, Trinity College of Music, Mayfair and Bloomsbury Churches, Arcola Theatre, Deptford Town Hall, Blachheath hall, Charlton House, Abu Dhabi National Theatre, Cambridge Festival, Harrogate Festival, Belfast Culture Festival, SESC São Paulo, Museu da Música de Lisboa and many more.
